IF I WERE TO BE NOMINATED AS CANDIDATE FOR CNN HERO

Surely we do have a lot of concerns in many areas and the precedence I always have in mind is education-related. As a development communicator, my main concern is the implementation of READING SCHEME in certain Thai institutions.

I have been working in Thailand for more than 4 years now in the concentration of educational field. I have been a part of the literacy department specializing the development of the reading skills of our multicultural students. Less knowledge in reading is a widely known problem you get to meet in any Thai institution.

Thais spent a luxury in education with high hopes for the English fluency of their children. However, the return keeps them desperate and keeps them striving to test out other schools and languages centers. No one can help them better than the school can. Thus, schools should have sufficient knowledge with regards to BASIC LEARNING--learning to read. Basic may sound an effortless thing. But dealing with the students who are barely able to read is similar to teaching a baby how to walk. It takes goals coupled with passion to persist doing it whatever the cost.

Reading is an introductory focus to other learning. It is a versatile skill each kid should master. The kids' mastery in reading would serve as their gateway to the world as they grow up. I believe CHILDREN IS THE FUTURE OF OUR UNIVERSE. But no one can help them get to where they should be without someone leaving them a legacy. Someday, when they'll be doctors, teachers, engineers, pilots and whatever professions they choose to do they will look back and thank you for what you have made them because you have made them USEFUL and IMPORTANT.

After putting up the Reading Scheme in our Bilingual school, we did see a big improvement in our students. With this program going smoothly for three years now, I was encouraged to introduce the concept to other Thai institutions.

Thanks to our LITERACY TEAM, our program had been very effective.

P.S. This is my assignment for my schooling
